Themed day to offer Pirates of the Caribbean fun

Ohio University students will have to drop anchor, grab some booty and shiver their timbers Wednesday.

University Program Council “set sail” and is bringing Pirates of the Caribbean Day to OU. The event is free and will feature food, games and prizes. Students will have to follow their maps to the Baker Theatre Lounge on the second floor of Baker University Center. The event will be held from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday.

Kellie Snyder, a junior studying public relations and the special events executive for UPC, said all the festivities tie in with the Pirates Franchise.

“There will be Caribbean food, candy and games like limbo for students,” Snyder said.

The UPC is a student-run programming board that puts on different events, performances and entertainment for other students at OU.

“Since Harry Potter Day was such a success, we decided to continue with the movie theme and thought that a Pirates of the Caribbean Day would be a good idea,” Snyder said.

Marnie Ballentine, a freshman who is undecided as to a major, said she would be interested in attended Pirates of the Caribbean Day.

“I went to the Harry Potter Day, and I think that the Pirates of the Caribbean Day will have a good turnout as well,” she said.

Lauren Schneider, a senior studying criminology, said the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has a strong following.

“The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise appeals to everyone’s sense of adventure and fantasy,” Schneider said. “By and large, every family or person can enjoy the films, and I would recommend people watch them.”

Snyder said she is excited for the event.

“It is great to see all the planning and work that we put into things come to life; it is fun to give away prizes and see how excited people get too,” Snyder said. “I definitely think we will have a good turnout. It will be a colorful, eye-catching event, and I think a lot of people will come by and visit and stick around to grab a bite to eat.”
