Women's Golf: Bobcats look to swing past last year's Zippy Invitational performances

Coach Kelly Ovington is looking for strong performances from two of her leaders at the Zippy Invitational.

Megan Weaver and Jordan Fesh are expected to score well for the Bobcats this week, Ovington said.

The team is hoping to improve on last year's fifth-place finish at the invitational.

The course at Fairlawn Country Club in Akron, will be one of the toughest the Bobcats play during the fall portion of their season, Ovington said. It plays about 6,400 yards, making it relatively long for a women's course. She said, placement will be key for the Bobcats' success because the course features several tricky spots that could land the Bobcats in big trouble if they don't play smart.

Naturally designed to play long and narrow off the tee, the likely rainy conditions early next week will make the course play even longer. Combining a naturally long course with possible sloppy ground could result in high scores.

Weaver, a junior, has lead the team all year, and is one of the squad's most consistent golfers. Always known as being as long both off the tee and with her irons, Weaver has been working hard this year to improve her accuracy in all aspects of her game, Ovington said.

Fesh, a sophomore, is also predicted to do well for the Bobcats at the Zippy. Fesh has earned a reputation as being one of the more accurate Bobcats. Coach Ovington also said Fesh was a smart player and said Fesh will do well this weekend because of her intelligence on the golf course.

Coach Ovington has high hopes for the Bobcats heading into the Zippy Invitational.

I would like to see us finish in the top five she said, adding that the Bobcats would hold their own in the sixteen-team field. Ovington also said that her squad was playing much better than last year at this point in the season and noted that the squad played exceptionally well at the Zippy last year.
