Classic rock fans hoping to see some rock legends up close should head to the Athena Grand as Aerosmith: Rock for the Rising Sun blasts on the screen.
Provided in association with SpectiCast and Eagle Rock Entertainment, the concert film will feature the band playing during its fall 2011 performances in seven different stages across Japan.
“This is more than just a concert caught on film,” said Mark Rupp, co-founder and president of SpectiCast. “Because of the backstory behind the tour, Rock for the Rising Sun is really a fully-fledged motion picture, with a narrative that fans and those new to Aerosmith will become invested in.”
Songs featured in the film are “Walk This Way,” “Livin’ on the Edge,” “Last Child,” among others, and also include live bonus tracks “Lick and a Promise” and “One Way Street.” Initially, the film was only supposed to be for Aerosmith’s personal archives, but the band has decided to release the film to the public.
“The sales for this and similar films don’t bring in big numbers but I feel there is a market for them,” said Rick Frame, manager of the Athena Grand. “The ticket prices are very reasonable and the audience is all ages.”
Aerosmith: Rock for the Rising Sun will be returning to the Grand on Oct. 20.
“Aerosmith is truly one of the great rock acts of all time and this incredible concert film brings together tracks from across their storied career,” Rupp said.
Versa Manos, promoter for SpectiCast, said she considers the film “touching,” and “emotional,” while also being “humorous” and “insightful.”
“I have been showing alternative content at the Athena Grand now for three years and it’s been well received by our customers,” Frame said. “We will always show first run movies like the rest of the theatres but we want to be more than that.”
