Hispanic boom shouldn't change anthem's language

The world has been in an uproar about the national anthem being translated into Spanish. I am very liberal when it comes to my political views; however, in regards to this topic, I must stand on the conservative side.

America has been described as the melting pot, taking all forms of immigrants and melting them together to form one thing: the Americanized-Immigrant. This label might have held true in the earlier parts of the immigration boom, but things change over time.

I view America as a salad bowl in this day and age. To make a great salad, little things from all types of vegetables come together to form the big picture, but nothing has to change; it just exists in harmony with the other vegetables around it while maintaining its original taste.

We as Americans, from all walks of life, must live in harmony with one another. Immigrants should be proud of their heritage and Americans should respect it, but we're all here striving for the same thing ' what our forefathers wanted. They believed in a national anthem. They believed in the one written in 1812 by Francis Scott Key. Must we change everything because America is changing?

Change is good. Bring to the salad your own little flair, but don't change the entire salad. We should respect immigrants and what they bring to America, and likewise, immigrants should respect America and what it has brought to them. Keep The Star-Spangled Banner the way it was intended to be.' Aaron White is a junior integrated language arts major.
