Stephanie Blackburn and Melissa Griffin will leave Ohio as two of the Bobcats' greatest players statistically in the program's history, but coach Geoff Carlston knows that the pair are more than just names in the Ohio record book.
They are going to be missed
the Ohio coach said. Not just because they are good but they've been really fun to coach and I've learned a lot from them in terms of how far people can go.
The duo, along with defensive specialist Janice Matacic, will take the floor in The Convo in Mid-American Conference play for the final time this weekend with the chance to claim their fourth outright regular-season championship of their careers with a victory tonight against Kent State.
We want four rings
Griffin said. Since freshman year
Stephanie and I have said we want one ring for each year. It would be pretty cool.
Blackburn said that a fourth regular-season conference title would be an added bonus to her Senior Weekend.
It will be great
I can't wait
she said. We want to stay focused and take care of Kent and Central (Michigan)
but afterwards
we can reflect on it and it will be a relief off our shoulders.
Statistically speaking, the pair has a combined 2,921 kills, with Griffin now atop the kill list with 1,562. Blackburn is fourth on the kill list and second all-time in digs at Ohio.
As a tandem
we've had a lot of good players
but these two are very special
