Legal Affairs fills spot

Interim Director of Legal Affairs John Biancamano will serve as Ohio University's general counsel and assistant attorney general starting Aug. 18, eight months after his predecessor vacated the position.

Biancamano, who has split time as the senior associate general counsel for Ohio State University and interim director of legal affairs at OU, will run the day-to-day operations of the university's Office of Legal Affairs. He will report both to the president and the attorney general as required by Ohio law.

Biancamano replaces John Burns, who retired after 36 years as director. Burns made $158,848 annually. Following Burns' exit in January, OU hired Biancamano as Interim Director of Legal Affairs. He will earn $176,000 yearly as general counsel.

OU will pay more than $27,000 to the Columbus-based firm that narrowed the national search for a permanent general counsel to three finalists.

Before joining OSU where he spent 16 years, Biancamano served as first assistant attorney general under Attorney General Anthony J. Celebrezze Jr. He holds a bachelor's degree in music history from Yale University and a law degree from the University of Notre Dame.
