Although Terrence McCrae won't make Ohio fans forget about all-time leading rusher Kalvin McRae, he did remind onlookers of the former Bobcat running back during Tuesday's scrimmage with his ability to reach the end zone.
The 6-foot-4 wide receiver reached the end zone three times in four catches while totaling 104 receiving yards in the team's first real game scenario of the fall.
Everyday my position coach and I set personal goals
McCrae said. One day I might work on better route running one day I might work on better hands. It's just a day-by-day process.
Ohio coach Frank Solich previously named McCrae as one of the players who has impressed thus far in fall camp.
He's been playing with some consistency Solich said.
Last season, the sophomore had one catch for 22 yards, and, despite an impressive day Tuesday, he said he's not going to rest on his laurels with so many options at wide receiver for the Bobcats.
I'm the type of person who's never really satisfied
McCrae said. All around I think this is one of the best receiving groups I've seen around.
All three of McCrae's touchdown catches came from quarterback Boo Jackson, who had an impressive day of his own, going 10 of 14 with 192 passing yards and the three touchdowns to McCrae.
We did a lot of passing in the summer
so we have a feel for each other
McCrae said. It feels real natural. He hasn't been here for too long
but he throws nice balls.
Jackson, who admittedly has struggled with his consistency-
but whenever a scrimmage comes around
I am so comfortable
Jackson said. I think I'm more of a game-time player than a practice player.
While Jackson had his day passing, fellow quarterback Theo Scott had his way on the ground, racking up 105 yards on four carries. He also was six of 10 with 43 yards passing.
I think his speed is really at a high level right now
Solich said. I think he's gotten a little faster.
Also on the ground, Ohio's four running backs all received carries, with junior Chris Garrett leading the way with nine carries for 37 yards.
It was tough to judge the running backs
