University named a 'green' college

The Princeton Review named Ohio University a “green college” in its third annual report after analyzing the university’s sustainability-related policies, practices and programs.

The report is a byproduct of a partnership between The Princeton Review and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) which surveys university administrators in the U.S. and Canada about their sustainable practices and rates those answers to produce a score.

“When we learned that the majority of prospective college students factor a school's commitment to sustainability into their selection criteria, we wanted to ensure we were providing the best information," said Rachel Gutter, director of the Center for Green Schools at USGBC, in a news release.

The report highlighted OU’s research, the Ecohouse and student programs such as the Sierra Student Coalition, Sustainable Ohio University Leaders and Eco Reps as evidence of OU’s interest in sustainable practices.

OU has previously been deemed a “green college” by the Princeton Review, but Bowling Green State University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wittenberg University and Xavier University were all added to the list this year.
