Office of Sustainability relocates to Bingham House

The Office of Sustainability is recycling an old building on campus.

The Bingham House, the historic log cabin on Richland Ave., will now house the Office of Sustainability, said Associate Vice President for Facilities •Harry Wyatt.

The Office of Sustainability will be sharing the building, built around 1805, with parking registration for campus visitors. The house was the former home to the Visitor Center, which now resides in Baker University Center.

The move took place as an effort to consolidate administrative offices on campus, Wyatt said.

“We’re excited about the idea of being able to reuse a historic building,” Wyatt said.

In addition to the cabin, the Office of Sustainability inherited a basement filled with old, possibly antique furniture.

The furniture the office does not use will be donated to Ohio University or the Athens County Historical Society & Museum

“We’re really happy to be able to bring a new life to the building,” Wyatt said.
