This Sunday Ohio University will get a splash of color.
The Color Run, originally started in January 2012 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness, individuality, and giving back to the community, will make a stop this weekend in Athens.
With four standpoints as its focus, it earned the name The Happiest 5k on the Planet. Color Runs are 5k untimed races and for every 1000 kilometers that runners strive through they get rewarded with colored powder thrown at them. The first splash of color will be pink, followed by green, blue, and finally orange.
Even though it is a long race many still take the challenge of running it.
“I talked to some of my friends from other schools to see What Color Run was all about,” said Meghan Carbone, a freshman studying strategic communications. “After hearing their positive feedback about how much fun it was and how it promotes healthiness and happiness, I figured it would be the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon with my friends.”
Carbone has never done a color run so this will be a great first experience for her. The race itself is a friendly environment designed to be enjoyable for the runners, so many run for the focus of the event to help promote healthiness and happiness.
“I believe in this cause,” said Carbone “When people are physically, mentally and emotionally healthy and happy it makes life so much more enjoyable.”
Habitat for Humanity helped bring this event to Athens. Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio works with individuals in Southeast Ohio by aiding families in need and advocating for affordable housing.
To join attendees must register for $35 for a single runner and for a team of four or more it is $40. The check-in party is at the Intramural Field, Saturday at noon.
