Alleged rapist of a 13-year-old girl indicted

A man arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old in May was indicted for rape, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and gross sexual imposition today.

James P. Haddox, 35, from Vienna, W.Va., was indicted for the three charges today stemming from an incident May 25 where he allegedly had forced sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old female, according to a release from acting Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn.

Haddox was visiting a resident of Jet Star Drive in Hockingport when the incident occurred. He then fled to West Virginia, where Vienna Police picked him up.

Rape is a first-degree felony and, if convicted, he could serve up to 10 years in prison and pay up to $20,000, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

Unlawful sexual conduct with a minor is a third degree felony and, if convicted, he could serve up to 5 years in prison and pay up to $10,000, according to the code.

Gross sexual imposition is a fourth degree felony and, if convicted, he could serve up to 18 months in prison and pay up to $50,000, according to the code.

Haddox is currently incarcerated in West Virginia and the case is being investigated by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, according to the release.

Haddox is scheduled to appear for his arraignment June 7 at 2 p.m. in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas.
