The School of Music's Wind Ensemble plans to blow the audience away with its Symphonic Metamorphosis concert tomorrow night.
The ensemble will hold its concert of the quarter at 7 p.m. in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The event is called Symphonic Metamorphosis because most of the pieces of music are in symphonic form or are pieces from larger symphonic works said Dr. Andrew Trachsel, the event's main conductor. Graduate conductor Carissa Patton will also lead a selection.
The ensemble features a combination of undergraduate and graduate students. Auditions for the ensemble were held during the first week of the quarter.
It's the select wind and percussion students in the School of Music
Trachsel said.
Unlike most concerts, Symphonic Metamorphosis will be made up of seven songs. Five of those seven movements are part of larger songs, Trachsel said.
Some of the movements include Scherzo alla Marcia by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Sokol Fanfare by Leos Janacek and Paul Hindemith's Geschwindmarsch.
It's unusual for us to do seven pieces Trachsel said. The fact that we are doing seven pieces is a challenge.
The concert will also have some special guests in the audience. Ohio University's Foundation Board of Trustees will meet this week and will be in attendance, Trachsel said.
The event is expected to draw a medium sized crowd.
(We) would love as many people to come as possible said Trachsel.
