When Aaron Kuhnert and his wife Courtney moved from Carbondale, Ill., to Athens in 2011, their only intention was to form a church in a college town. However they were missing one crucial ingredient: a venue.
Along with 28 followers from Carbondale, Aaron and Courtney spent the summer holding small group sessions in their home.
On Sept. 11, the church experienced a surge of life from university students and Athens area residents when they began holding regular Sunday church services at the Athens Cinema, 20 S. Court St.
After nearly a year at the Athens Cinema, the Brookfield Church has found itself a new, more conservative home last week at 5 N. Court St., the old home of Specialty Books.
“We want to worship God together in a way that is casual, relevant, and real,” Kuhnert said on the Brookfield Church website.
The church also offers sermons to be streamed on their website. For more information, visit www.brookfieldchurch.com.
