On Aug. 27, Ohio University freshmen may be the least confused when it comes to waking up for the first day of classes.
Students will no longer be rushing to class 10 minutes after the hour but will need to adjust to the new Monday–Wednesday–Friday and Tuesday–Thursday class times.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes are now 55 minutes long, while Tuesday and Thursday classes will be 80 minutes — some beginning at 7:30 a.m.
“The biggest thing is reminding students because we are so used to having until 10 (minutes) after (the hour),” said Linda Lockhart, manager of communication for the Q2S transition.
Other changes coming with Q2S include the elimination of OU’s six-week winter intersession after Thanksgiving, which will be shortened to a one-monProxy-Connection: keep-alive

winter break from Dec. 15 to Jan. 24.
One of the most-noticed changes is one some students won’t mind: when school lets out for the summer.
“I don’t think I’ll care as much about the class time changes but will be happy to finally get out in May,” said Brian Merklin, a junior studying business pre-law and accounting.
As for preparation, freshmen are in the best position and had any necessary information covered during orientation, Lockhart said.
“They won’t really know the difference; to them, they have always gone to school on the semester calendar,” she said.
Students with Q2S questions or concerns are advised to stop by the Allen Student Help Center, 419 Baker University Center, or visit www.ohio.edu/Q2S.
