Women’s Basketball: What to know for Toledo

Ohio (13-9, 7-4 Mid-American Conference) travels to Toledo (12-9, 6-4 MAC) on Tuesday to face the Rockets.

The Bobcats just lost to Old Dominion on Saturday by 8 points. It was a back-and-forth game that saw a lot of lead changes, but ultimately, the height of Old Dominion came through for the Monarchs, as they logged eight blocks against Ohio.

Bella Ranallo led with 15 points, and Aliah McWhorter was just behind her with 12. Elli Garnett led the team with seven rebounds. The team shot a 39.1% field-goal percentage and made half of their 3 point shots. They also recorded 41 rebounds collectively.

The Rockets also just played Saturday, beating Southern Miss 76-67. Patricia Anumgba led the team in points and had a season-high record with 25. Faith Fedd-Robinson also scored 20 for Toledo and had 15 boards. The Rockets had a 42.9% rate from the field, despite making less than a third of their 3 point shots.

The two teams just played each other Jan. 24, with Toledo taking a 9 point win. Bailey Tabeling was the lead scorer for the Bobcats with 15 points, and Fedd-Robinson led the Rockets with 16. Toledo made almost half of their field goals while Ohio only made about a third of theirs. However, the Rockets had a 19% 3 point percentage and the Bobcats had a 29.6% percentage.

This sophomore guard from New Jersey has been a key component of Toledo’s success this season. At its previous game against Southern Miss, she had a career game, scoring her highest amount of points this season with 20, to go along with eight field goals made and a whopping 15 total rebounds.

She is just behind the leading scorer for the team, with a 12.1 per game average. She also has a field-goal percentage of 48.8%, despite only making 20% of her 3 point shots. She also has an impressive free-throw percentage of 76.2%. Rebounding is where she shines, getting around 6.6 boards per game. She gets most of her boards defensively, getting 4.7 defensive rebounds per game. Rebounding is one of Ohio’s biggest troubles, so preventing her from pulling frequent boards will be a key to the Bobcats winning this matchup.
