Leite appointed interim dean for HHS college

Ohio University has named an interim dean for the College of Health and Human Services.

Randy Leite, associate dean for academic affairs in the college, will succeed Dean Gary Neiman, who will retire in June after 10 years on the job. Neiman will stay on as a co-director of the quarters to semesters transition team and will earn $45,887 a year, $139,513 less than his current salary.

Leite will assume the dean position for one year beginning on July 1 as the university searches for a permanent dean. He currently makes $100,000 a year, but university officials said that his salary as interim dean is not yet known.

My role for the year as interim will basically be to lead the college forward in whatever direction we proceed

Leite said.

University officials are currently discussing ways to reorganize the college, including the creation of an academic health center through the College of Osteopathic Medicine and HHS programs and the re-integration of the HHS early childhood education program into the College of Education.

I think (reorganizing) will certainly be a big challenge Leite said.

The university will also integrate HHS programs into other colleges, such as the College of Business.

Kathy Krendl, executive vice president and provost, announced Leite's appointment yesterday following an internal search. HHS faculty nominated individuals for the position and a faculty advisory committee was created to offer input on each nominee.

People have a great deal of confidence in Leite because of his knowledge of the college and position as associate dean, said Ann Fidler, interim associate provost for strategic initiatives, adding that about five others were nominated.

Before coming to OU this year, Leite directed the Institute for Child and Family Policy and was an associate professor at Bowling Green State University.
