Soccer: Ohio looks to return to winning ways against Georgetown

The Bobcats are looking to rebound after a tough week that saw their undefeated season come to a halt with back-to-back losses. They lost a double-overtimƒe heartbreaker against Robert Morris last Friday, and then lost 3-1 at Ohio State on Sunday. This Friday, they travel to Washington D.C. to take on possibly their toughest opponent of the season in Georgetown (5-2-1).

The Hoyas are ranked No. 12 in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches and own a 4-1 home record and are riding a three-match winning streak. Ohio is coming off back-to-back losses, and this match is its last before beginning conference play against Northern Illinois next Friday. Going into conference play on a three-match losing streak would not be ideal for a team looking to compete for a conference title.

Last week, Georgetown forward Amanda Carolan was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week. The Hoyas are a formidable opponent, but the Bobcats will continue to play their style as they prepare for conference play.

“We’re going to play our style [against Georgetown on Friday], because when we get into conference, we’re going to play our style,” said Bobcats coach Aaron Rodgers. “Everything we’ve been doing up to now has been preparing for the MAC.”

Clearly, Ohio is using these tough matches to prepare for its MAC opponents. As the Bobcats prepare for their last match before conference play, they are looking to get back to the winning ways that allowed them to open the season 5-0, their best start in program history.  If they can start to do that against Georgetown, that would be a huge momentum boost going into conference play next week.

Kickoff on Friday is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Shaw Field in Washington D.C.
