Spencer Radcliffe of Blithe Field has high hopes for ACRN night Thursday at the Smiling Skull Saloon, 108 W. Union St.
People should be ready for the greatest time they have ever had or will ever have in their entire life Radcliffe said. Or the worst.
Radcliffe, lead singer of Athens-based band Blithe Field, takes the stage Thursday along with fellow Athens native 99¢ Dreamz, Columbus-based Guinea Worms and Cleveland-based Mousetrap Breakfast Serial.
ACRN night is a monthly night at the Skull where the radio station brings in bands that are representative of the music it plays.
Aaron Vilk, promotions director for ACRN, said, We just pick good bands that compliment our style and that we feel will be enjoyed by our fans.
Proceeds from the show will pay for the two out-of-town bands' food and gas, Vilk said.
Jim Matzorkis, who plays as Mousetrap Breakfast Serial, has been playing experimental rock music while learning about urban sustainable farming
D. Paul Lampley II, the sole member of 99¢ Dreamz, is looking forward to the show as well.
There will be ridiculous stage antics awkwardly honest songs about a college boy
out-of-tune singing and the beautiful tone of a broken guitar I bought for $50
Lampley said.
Radcliffe and Lampley have known each other since freshmen orientation.
He was actually the first person I met at orientation
Lampley said of Radcliffe. And although we've never actually played together
we wrote a song together over Facebook messages once.
Radcliffe said he is excited to be playing with 99¢ Dreamz, Guinea Worms and Mousetrap Breakfast Serial.
All the bands sound really good
so it's going to be a great show
Radcliffe said. I'd say I'm most excited for all the great memories that will be made and all the friends I'll make. At least I hope I'll make
because I don't really have any.
