Student Senate: Academics and athletics among series of presentations planned

Student Senate will address both academics and athletics at Wednesday’s meeting.

Ohio University athletic director Jim Schaus will give a presentation regarding the multipurpose center, an estimated $11 million project. Construction is projected to begin after fundraising ends in late March, according to previous Post reports.

Senate will also put forth a resolution to endorse a car-sharing program, introduced at last week’s Senate meeting by Ryan Lombardi, dean of students.

“I am pleased to hear of the student interest in the car-sharing program,” Lombardi said in an email. “As I mentioned at the meeting last week, I see the greatest benefit to this program for the students, and that is why I wanted to know if it was something they want me to pursue further. Given their support, we will gladly proceed with plans to implement for next fall.”

The board will also vote on a resolution to take a stance on House Bill 377, which includes student trustee voting rights. Current trustees Danielle Parker and Allison Arnold have recently visited Senate, sharing their stance on the bill, which is that student trustees don’t need a vote.

Senate will also revisit the FourYears book exchange, a website that allows students to exchange textbooks. Last year, Senate passed a resolution to place a link to the site from the student’s home page of Ohio’s website. Now, FourYears’ domain has expired and Senate has to “look at the best action to take,” said Kyle Triplett, Senate president.

“I think we will have some good discussions tomorrow,” Triplett said. “I am looking forward to hearing about all the successes with results because of some of our recent big wins.”

Senate will present a resolution to address Q2S curriculum changes, and Mary Kate Gallagher with do a presentation on fest safety.
