City council to discuss extenstion of low-income housing agreements

After a four-week recess, Athens City Council will convene for the first time in 2013 Monday night.

Council members will discuss a possible extension of the housing revolving loan fund that provides low-income housing opportunities in the city.

Currently the loan is governed through an agreement made by Athens, Hocking and Perry counties that must be approved every two years.  The proposed extension would make each agreement good for three years.

Council members will also consider a recommendation made by the city planning commission to change zoning codes between Utah Street and Townshend Place.

The new zoning code would make all plots designed for single-family housing and would eliminate any possibility of duplexes or apartments in the neighborhood.

More projects for 2013 and pending bills from 2012 will be discussed Monday night at 7 p.m. at the city building.
