After reading Samantha Tiller's response to Chris Yonker's latest hit (chart-topper), I found myself in the midst of a revelation. For a while I thought people were actually offended by Yonker's columns, that these bright, young college students were really so hopelessly idealistic that they were blind to satire. I was convinced that OU was full of hyper-sensitive 15-year-olds whose bedtimes prevented them from experiencing the rotten pleasure of that unholy block of air-time on Comedy Central, spanning from 11:30 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Thursday. Yes, I am talking about The Colbert Report. And while Yonker may lack the experience and skill of Colbert, I've always found it rather obvious that everything he writes is tongue-in-cheek.
But alas, it seems I have been fooled. It has become apparent to me that these responses aren't the work of hyper-sensitive 15-year-olds at all; they are pure satirical genius! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it's all the work of that wily Yonker character. Imagine it. Yonker writes his articles, followed by an equally satirical oppositional response, hands the response off to a friend and then has his friend submit it to The Post. And all the while, the unsuspecting public is left to watch in horror as normally rational students degenerate to the level of Democratic presidential candidates and tear into each others personal beliefs on The Post's Web site, starting all-out flame wars.
Yonker and friends, it's time to put a stop to this. Can't you see what you are doing to these people? Sure, you might be getting some sort of strange pleasure watching your clever ruses turn these once-promising kids into dookie-slinging primates. But is it worth it? Please put a stop to this madness, for the sake of these students' online reputations. Their Facebook pages are damaging enough as it is.
