Fridays Live, OU's live sketch comedy show, is a great way to kick off your weekend. For those student's who want to experience Saturday Night Live ' Athens style ' this hilarious show has a live taping every Friday night.
Anyone who's ever dreamed of being a part of a live studio audience can line up outside studio C in the RTV building to achieve their goal. Not only is it interesting to see TV production in action ' those cameras are huge ' but you get to clap your heart out whenever the applause sign lights up. Just make sure you get there early. The doors open at 6:45 p.m. but there's usually a line that fills the hallway.
Not only does the show allow audience members to be a part of television in the making ' but it's funny. From The A-News
a weekly news broadcast spoof, to Streetwalking where the drunken antics of Court Street patrons are captured on film, the show keeps the audience chuckling.
Entirely student written and produced, the comedy is creative and relevant. My all time favorite show was the musical episode the cast put on last quarter. From a parody of Summer Nights from Grease that tells the tale of a drunken Friday night on Court Street to We Are the Show a version of We Are the World staring caricatures of R. Kelly, Dakota Fanning, and Hulk Hogan, it was musical comedy at its best.
With a new cast this season, I'm excited to see what the cast and crew of the show will come up with. Check it out on Friday nights at 6:45 in Studio C in the RTV Building. The tapings only last a half hour so you can still go out afterwards. If you miss the taping, the show airs at 10 p.m. on WOUB II.
