Game show club hopes price is right

Saturday afternoon Morton Hall will be filled with students, flashing lights and the booming sounds of Come on down! as the Ohio University Game Show Appreciation Society hosts the OU Price is Right.

The student-run show is a scaled-down version of the real The Price is Right

said Travis Schario, president of the GSAS and former contestant on The Price is Right.

The OU Price is Right will feature smaller versions of real Price is Right games, including Plinko the Shell Game Lucky Seven and the Clock Game. GSAS members built many of the props that will be used, including the Plinko board and the Big Wheel.

The show also features real sound effects and music from the show and an interactive Power Point slideshow that Schario designed.

Some of the most expensive prizes to be won are an MP3 player and two NEO FC video game systems, Schario said. Other prizes range from school supplies and groceries to gift certificates for several Uptown businesses.

GSAS adviser Dave Peffer will be the announcer for the event, and Schario will be the host.

OU freshmen Jessica Brown and Christine Cosari will be among the girls acting as beauties for the show, modeling prizes and assisting with games. Both girls said that they were excited to help out.

We've been waiting to get involved on campus

Brown said.

GSAS member Drew Silverman asked them to participate. He is an RA in Washington Hall, where the girls live.

Silverman is the show's contestant coordinator; he will be assisting the producer in interviewing audience members to choose who will compete as contestants.

Schario said that, before being seated, each audience member will be asked one of four questions, including: Where are you from? and What's your major? He said that contestants will be chosen based on their mood and attitude.

Silverman said that he is looking for contestants who appear to know what they are doing.

Schario said that about 1 percent of funding for the event came from the Student Activities Commission, and the rest came from the pockets of GSAS members.

Two years ago, Schario appeared on the real The Price is Right

placing the winning bid on a hot tub to get on stage. He then won a Cadillac by playing Lucky Seven.

The sold-out event will be held in Morton Hall 201, which seats approximately 391. Schario said that around 500 tickets were sent out to ensure a capacity crowd.

Audience members are encouraged to arrive at 10 a.m. to receive a number for their place in line. They are then allowed to leave, but they must return at noon to be interviewed and seated. The show is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Schario said that there are approximately 150 tickets left for the next production of the OU Price is Right, which is scheduled for May 14.
