David Bowie's 'Berlin Trio'
David Bowie's mystique as a musical chameleon reached its fruition with his Berlin Trio, three albums he recorded in Berlin with innovator Brian Eno. Low, Heroes and Lodger are challenging, brilliant mixtures of Bowie's earlier pop breakthroughs with avant-pop that dominated the European music scene at the time. Each album has its own strengths, but for me nothing can match the stunning scope of Heroes. Following the same half-vocal/half-instrumental structure of the album that preceded Low, Heroes toughens the compositions while offering more interesting instrumentals. Plus, it features the brilliant Robert Fripp on guitar (just listen to Joe the Lion).-
