Friends of the Library to sell $1 books today, tomorrow

More than 6,000 books will be sold at the Friends of the Libraries Book Sale tonight for a dollar each.

The book sale is a quarterly event sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University. Last year, the sale made more than $5,000.

(The Friends of the Libraries) is a support group that has been in existence since

I think 1979. The sale is conducted once each quarter for three days said Arthur Wooley, an emeritus associate professor of English and member of the Friends of the Libraries board.

Books will be sold for a dollar, with clearance books at 25 cents today and tomorrow.

On Thursday we charge double price. It is called pre-sale. If you want your pick of books you have got to come at that point

because that is when we will have all 6

000 books transported in

Wooley said.

The books are either pieces the library no longer wants, or donated by Athens-area residents.

The majority of (the books) are donated by people connected to the university in one way or another

particularly retiring faculty. They are getting the library out of their office and wondering

'What do I do with all of these books now?' Wooley said.

Aside from professional volumes, there is also a large collection of fiction books and children's books.

There is a very general division by category. I have a section for social sciences books

I have a section for literature and fiction

and I have a section for arts and humanities

Wooley said. You can tell those are humongous classes
