With important meets approaching, Ohio must be in top form in the coming weeks.
If this weekend was any indication, they are well on their way.
Sophomore Kristi Sturges won the long jump and five other Bobcats placed in the top-five at the Miami Invitational Saturday in Oxford.
Sturges won with a mark of 5.57 meters. She also placed 10th in the 200-meter dash (26.56 seconds), and sixth in triple jump (10.30 meters). She also anchored the Bobcats' 4 x100-meter relay team, which took fifth with a time of 49.63 seconds.
Other top performers included freshman Brittany Tyree, who took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.92. Junior Christen Bosch placed second in the pole vault (3.4 meters). Freshman Courtney Weiss and junior Sharon Gase took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles, with times of 1:04.83, and 1:05.28.
Juniors Kari Summers and Annie Beecham returned to the track Saturday after resting the previous meet. They usually run the 5,000-meter run, but instead ran the 1,500-meter run, finishing fifth and sixth with times of 4:41.76, and 4:42.22, respectively.
The distance crew did a great job
coach Clay Calkins said. We had some good individual performances.
Despite having half of the team in another state, the Bobcats took the challenge Saturday.
We had a well-rounded performance even though we were missing some of our top athletes Calkins said. We had some people step up.
The other half of the squad, which included most of the throwers, competed at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. Junior Bahiyjaui Allen placed sixth in the invitational-division discus with a season-best throw of 46.96 meters. Junior Cathy Udeani finished seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.7 meters, narrowly missing the NCAA regional qualifying mark of 1.75 meters.
We had some good individual performances
Calkins said. That's good to see coming into All-Ohio next week.
