Athens City Council members will discuss a grant offered through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources at the Monday night committee meeting.
Members will discuss creating an ordinance that would allow Athens Mayor Steve Patterson to apply for the NatureWorks grant, which would fund development of recreational areas. The grant will fund up to 75 percent of a project to rehabilitate, develop or purchase public recreational land, according to the ODNR website.
City council members will also hear a presentation from the Athens Municipal Arts Commission, which gives recommendations about public art to city council. The presentation will discuss creating an ordinance to plan an Uptown art event.
Additionally, city council members will discuss amending the city’s Environmental and Sustainability Commission memberships.
The commission focuses on environmental sustainability in Athens. It created the city’s Sustainability Plan, which aims to lower private energy consumption and increase public solar in Athens.
