Foundation names 8 new trustees

Eight new trustees have joined the Ohio University Foundation board, seven of which are OU alumni.

Among the new members is McClellan A. Dubois, of Hemdon, Va., who got his masters from OU in 1971 and is a vice president at Raytheon, a U.S. defense corporation. Patricia A. Ackerman, of Richmond Heights, Ohio, is also among the new members. A 1966 OU graduate, she is a retired teacher and principal and is also president and CEO of Chalkdust Inc., an education consulting firm.

Four of the eight live in Ohio, and all but one of them graduated from OU. Larry Gates, of Chillicothe, is not an alumni, but is chairman of the Regional Coordinating Council for the Chillicothe campus.

The new members join a total of 40 voting trustees on the foundation board, according to the OU Web site. The board meets three times annually with their next meeting scheduled for Nov. 5 through 7.

The current foundation trustees elect new members as seats open up. Each trustee can serve nine years in one to three year terms. After nine years on the board, they become emeriti trustees, which do not have voting rights.

Journalist Matt Lauer and university Board of Trustees member Larry Schey are emeriti trustees.

Founded in 1946, the foundation raises more than $20 million annually from more than 25,000 donors. It also manages the university's endowment, which amounts to almost $262 million, according to the foundation's Web site.

Trustees fundraise for the university, are stewards of the endowment

represent Ohio University in their communities and serve as a professional advisor in their areas of qualified expertise to the university a foundation spokeswoman said in an e-mail.

None of the new members could be reached for comment.

This article originally listed President McDavis as an emeriti trustee. He is a normal trustee with voting rights. The Post regrets the error.
