Weekender Briefs: What’s happening this week

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of events have been canceled or rescheduled. However, some organizations and Athens groups are adapting to the Ohio stay-at-home order and hosting events online through virtual services, like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Here’s a list of some events still happening this week:

Friday, Aug. 7:

Family Car Parade at 3 p.m., hosted by Kimes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Join them for the second parade with cars lining up 2:30 p.m. and the parade at 3 p.m. Weather permitting, the event will happen on the first Friday of every month. The theme of this parade will be The County Fair, so dress yourself and your car up in the theme.

90s vs. 2000s Night at 9 p.m., hosted by DJ Barticus and WOUB Public Media. Though places have started to open up, DJ Barticus feels mass gatherings aren’t the greatest idea for people’s health. Join the livestream through Twitch.tv or through Instagram @bartykutz.

Saturday, Aug. 8:

DMTK at Athens Farmers Market at 9 a.m., hosted by Dr. May’s Thai Kitchen. Stop by the booth at the Athens Farmers Market to enjoy some authentic Thai cuisine. Masks are required, and you can order online at the DMTK website to avoid waiting to order.

Car Meet at 7 p.m., hosted by Rags 2 Wrenches. Head to Dunham's Sporting Goods, 1006 E. State St., for a spirit booster with the group. Come hang out and have fun, but remember to wear your masks and be respectful to other people.

Sunday, Aug. 9:

Yoga in the Park at 11 a.m., hosted by Athens Yoga. Join various instructors for a socially distant outdoor yoga class. Links to pay the instructors are on the Facebook event page.

Monday, Aug. 10:

Food Drive for International Students at 4 p.m., hosted by Athens Ohio Rotary Club. The club will have vehicles in the parking lot across the street from the OU Inn to collect food to take to the Cats’ Cupboard for the international students.

Thursday, Aug. 13:

Painting @ Home: Sloths! at 5:30 p.m., hosted by the Dairy Barn Arts Center. Join them for a workshop from home, and if you want to purchase a canvas through the Dairy Barn, you will also get a stencil to help ensure you complete a painting you really love. See the ticket link on the Facebook event page for additional pricing. 

Admission: For the class only, $10 for members, $12 for non-members

Teen Night at 6 p.m., hosted by Integrate Athens. Come to this inclusive opportunity for teens and young adults between the ages of 13 and 22 to get to know one another, make new friends and have fun.
