Until five years ago, Donkey Coffee and Espresso owner Chris Pyle rarely drank coffee.
That changed when he fulfilled his dream of owning a coffee shop. Yesterday, Pyle and his wife achieved another milestone: expanding the shop with a remodeled and newly opened second floor.
The new space, which measures about 400 square feet, took about three and a half months to complete, Pyle said.
Although Pyle would not say how much the new addition cost, he said it was more than he had originally expected.
Ohio University junior Nathan Trester said he is glad there will be extra space to study when the shop is packed with people.
I like it ' it's like something out of the '30s
but somehow new Trester said of the area.
The second-floor d+ said he hopes Donkey will continue to expand.
The space is limited by the structure of the building, but the owners plan to continue expanding the space with an outdoor patio and children's room, Pyle said. He and his wife lease the space but might buy it in the future if the price works into their budget.
Pyle said he and his wife are overwhelmed by the success and longevity of the shop.
You never know how long a business will last in the beginning
he said.
