Ohio University’s Student Senate last met two months ago, but the work didn’t stop over Winter Intersession.
Since Senate’s last November 9 meeting, members continued to work on the resolutions passed on that agenda.
Among those was senate’s decision to support FourYears.com, a site intended for students to rate professors and sell and purchase textbooks. Senate has encouraged university officials to link to the site from the OU Students page.
However, progress to hyperlinking the site has been slower than expected, Senate President Kyle Triplett said.
“There are a few legal hoops to jump through that haven’t allowed that site to come along,” Triplett said.
Senate also had many representatives serving on the president-appointed General Fee Committee. These individuals are Triplett; Treasurer Chris Wimsatt; Tiffany Schlein, budget and communications chair; and Tina Kongkeo, senate appropriations commissioner.
The General Fee Committee is a subcommittee of the Budget Planning Council, which makes budgetary recommendations to OU President Roderick McDavis.
Kent Smith, vice president for Student Affairs, appointed university life commissioner Zach George. Junior Jordan Thompson and Sophomore Kyle Marx were also appointed. Junior Kayla Hardman has returned to serve on the committee, Triplett said.
Assistant professor David Horton will serve as the faculty representative, while John Day, associate provost for academic budget and planning, will oversee the committee.
Graduate Student Senate will decide on a student representative at its next meeting.
Senate will focus on showing students how general fee dollars are distributed in the university electronically, said Triplett.
“I’ve talked with (McDavis’) Chief of Staff Becky Watts a good bit over break, making sure that’s coming along, about improvements to be made to the website,” he said.
Senate will have its first meeting of the quarter at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in 235 Walter Hall.
