Your Turn: Discussion of show proves play's promotion of dialogue

A forum to discuss the value of a performance called The Vagina Monologues. Is this the best idea a group of disapproving women could come up with? If the monologues are designed to heighten awareness about issues involving female sexuality, which seems to be the case, the forum would have only promoted discussion about the very issues the show takes up in its monologues.

As for being disappointed that the cast did not show up, it hardly seems like the women sponsoring the forum were concerned with their attendance. Perhaps asking the directors when would be a good time for such a discussion might have yielded a better turnout.

Like the show or not, suggesting that the means do not justify the ends is misguided in light of the dialogue the show has produced (prior to opening night no less). The fact that these women have feelings about the show's content suggests they have their own opinions about that content; and more importantly, that they want to share their opinions.

Perhaps, being a guy, I simply cannot understand the issue at hand. But last year's show certainly heightened my awareness of issues facing women. Chalk one up for the monologuers!Michael Baker is a senior English major.
