Student, alumni and Athens community members will have the opportunity to participate in It's a Bobcat Thing Homecoming 2005 presented by Ohio University and the Ohio University Alumni Association.
The annual Yell Like Hell pep rally kicked off Homecoming Weekend last night in Peden Stadium. The Ohio Bobcats football team, head coach Frank Solich, athletic director Kirby Hocutt and OU President Roderick McDavis attended the pep rally, sponsored by the Student Alumni Board. In addition, the Marching 110, Ohio cheerleaders, dance team and step team performed for the crowd.
The Ohio University Alumni Association is sponsoring the Alumni Awards Gala and Dessert Reception tonight at 7 in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, according to an Alumni Association press release.
The gala is a black tie event open to the public honoring alumni who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to the university. Ten award recipients chosen by the Alumni Association Board of Directors, one being U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, will be presented with several distinctive awards, according to the press release.
It is important to honor and respect OU alumni for their remarkable accomplishments
said Jim Harris, assistant director of market and communication. This event is a great way to bring back alumni and keep them connected to the university.
The Alumni Open House will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Konneker Alumni Center on University Terrace. The Homecoming Parade will follow at 10 a.m. through Uptown, sponsored by the University Program Council.
Before the football game, the Alumni Association will sponsor the Homecoming Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pepsi Tailgate Park.
There, various activities, inflatable games, music and food for past and present students and residents will be set up, said Ross Righter, vice president of Senior Class Council and a student worker for the Alumni Association.
To cap off the homecoming festivities, the Bobcats will play the Ball State Cardinals at 2 p.m. at Peden Stadium. Students interested in attending can get tickets at Peden or The Convo. Non-students can call 800-575-CATS for ticket information. 17
