Mothers support health groups with record-breaking yard sale

A yard sale hosted by two mothers' health support groups, La Leche League and The Birth Circle, held a record-breaking yard sale to benefit the groups this weekend.

La Leche League is a breastfeeding support group and The Birth Circle is an organization that educates women about birthing options and offers support for new mothers.

Volunteers from both organizations worked a total of 15 hours this weekend at their fifth annual yard sale.-

we made over $2 000 and we are hoping to top it this year Waller said.-

000 after the first day.

Final numbers were not available at press time, though the group said it generated more than $2,000.

This was the first time that the yard sale was at the Athens County Fairgrounds.

The yard sale is usually in a member's house and we outgrew the space and we needed more room

said Kerri Shaw, the other co-coordinator and representative of The Birth Circle.

About 36 volunteers worked the yard sale and members from both groups donated most of the items.

Leftover books not sold in the yard sale are donated to the Athens County Public Libraries and all children's items are donated to Help Me Grow

a program for expecting parents, and Women, Infants and Children, a program that provides support for low-income mothers.-

but we do have a lot of children's clothing and baby gear

Waller said.-

said Tammy McCombs, a former member of La Leche who shopped at the yard sale yesterday morning.-
