Why the fuss?

Come one, come all -see administrators squirm as Ohio University has improved its ranking from No.5 to No.2 on The Princeton Review's annual party school rankings.

Attempts have been made by President McDavis to completely remove OU from The Princeton Review's party school list, however, he has so far been unsuccessful. After last years list was published, OU did not aid in compiling the data -the university declined to provide The Princeton Review with a cross section of students of which to survey.

However, low and behold, students bypassed this minor glitch and completed the survey online to express their use of alcohol and drugs, hours of study each day and popularity of the Greek system here at OU. Although OU's reputation as a party school is enhanced by these rankings, attempting to pull out of the free publicity may not be the best move. Prospective students who research OU -when considering enrolling -know OU isn't a school of drunkards, but an accredited institution known for excellent fields of study including visual communications and journalism, and is the No.46 public school in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report.

It seems a waste of time for the administration to jump through hoops just to get off the list when the review's sources lack credibility. OU will likely never lose it's ingrained reputation and most people couldn't care less. It seems ridiculous for so much headache to be caused by a list that ranks us No.14 on the list entitled Lots of Beer. However, it is slightly embarrassing to be newly named No.2 on the Their students (almost) never study list. And sorry to those who ingeniously decided to ban OU's logo on shot glasses sold in bookstores -OU is No.16 on the Lots of Hard Liquor list.

Although the ranking is a source of pride to some and a peril to others, it should really hold little weight at the bottom line. Less of a huff and more faith in the intelligence of future students should be considered when analyzing the review. As for current students, it is doubtful that anything can stop them from raising a glass to celebrate OU's long-lived reputation that just won't shake.
