Bobcats nab first-place finishes at WVU invitational

Another meet, another school record.

This time it was Eric Bildstein in the weight throw. Bildstein broke the record with a throw of 17.85 meters. Bildstein held the previous record with a 17.64-meter throw in 2004. The throw was also good enough for Bildstein to earn a first-place finish.

Bildstein said although it was his own record he broke, he was still proud of the accomplishment.

I was in a slump for the past few weeks

and it was driving me and my coaches crazy Bildstein said. This weekend was nice to get out of that slump.

On the women's side, the highlight of the meet was the performance of the throwers.

Bahiyjaui Allen, Emily Amendola and Jessica Tanner took the top spots in both women's throwing events.

In the shot put, Allen threw 13.87 meters for first place, with Amendola right behind her with 13.17 meters. Tanner took fourth in the event with 12.26 meters.

In the weight throw it was Tanner who took first with a throw of 15.55 meters. Allen came in fourth throwing for 13.42 meters, and Amendola landed in sixth with 12.84 meters.

Altogether the team managed 35 top-five finishes with eight first-place finishes.

Dan Bailey accounted for two of the victories in the 200-meter dash and the 500-meter run.

Coach Clay Calkins said that the team did well on the track, but there is room for improvement.

It was a low-key meet this weekend said Calkins. We are just getting geared up for All-Ohio's.

Next weekend the team will travel to Bowling Green for the All-Ohio Championships.
