The numbers for this year's freshman class show that little has changed in enrollment for the past five years.
The size of the freshman class was right on target in meeting our goal of an entering class of 4
100 first-year students with a strong academic profile Ohio University Provost Kathy Krendl said in a news release.
The freshman class contains 4,094 students, the second largest class to enter OU in history. The first-year student's averaged a 23.4 ACT composite score and GPA of 3.36, according to a news release on Outlook.
We continue to pursue our goals of increasing multicultural and regional diversity and enrolling students who show much promise and who will add to the rich educational experience on campus Krendl said.
Diversity in first-year enrollment continues to be steady, with 322 multicultural students in this year's freshman class, about 10 fewer students than last year. The enrollment over the past two years has been significantly higher than 2004, which only had 225 multicultural students. Also, the number of students from out-of-state has increased by 14 percent from 327 in 2005 to 373 in 2006.
Based on the numbers provided by the Office of Institutional Research's Web site, this year's freshman class will be down 71 students from the 2005-06 freshmen class, which had 4,165 students.
OU's first-year student class size remained steady from 2002-04, staying between 3,703 in 2002 and 3,795 in 2004. The largest leap in class size in recent years occurred from the 2004-05 academic year to the 2005-06 academic year when the class size increased by 370 students. According to numbers from the Office of Institutional Research's Web site OU has seen a 3.3 percent increase in the freshman class size since 1999.
