OU Summer Sessions hosts annual fair in Baker Center

Ohio University Summer Sessions is previewing its summer course lineup Wednesday at its annual fair at Baker University Center.

The fair, which will run 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Baker University Center Rooms 240 to 242, aims to raise awareness of the opportunity to enroll in classes during the summer semester, said Assistant Director of Summer Sessions Pat Davidson.

The fair will offer opportunities for students considering enrolling in Summer Sessions to “go online and see what classes are available,” as well as have their questions answered by representatives from OU online who “oversee classes offered online around university,” Davidson said.

She also said students will be able to peruse information tables from the Academic Advancement Center, the Allen Student Help Center and the Office of Education Abroad, among others.

In addition to information and assistance with selecting classes, the fair will also provide a free lunch, music, T-shirts and sunglasses.

Davidson said “one lucky student,” whether by attending the fair or sending an email to OU Summer Sessions with their regrets, will have their tuition paid during summer semester.

The goal of the fair is to highlight the benefits of choosing to enroll at OU during the summer in hopes of boosting enrollment in Summer Sessions at OU, said Davidson. It also offers an opportunity for students to ask questions, she added.

“We do feel that the fair boosts enrollment,” she said. “Every year, we talk to students who have to take a class for whatever reason, but usually have questions beyond that that the fair can help with.”

According to its website, Summer Sessions at OU operates in two seven-week sections: May 13 to June 29 and July 1 to Aug. 17.

Students can register for up to 20 hours during summer, allowing them to potentially graduate earlier.

Housing is provided for students in Shively Hall and Tiffin Hall and students might select from various class lengths, formats, and disciplines, Davidson said.

In addition to the seven-week courses offered by Summer Sessions, Davidson said that this year, there will be classes offered on a five-week basis during the first five weeks of the second Summer Session.

The cost of attending Summer Sessions is the same as regular tuition at OU; the course offerings, while not in the same abundance as fall and spring offerings, have a similar variety, said Davidson.
