Democrats in the Ohio House of Representatives retained legal counsel from a Columbus law group in an effort to guarantee all votes are counted in the race for the 92nd District seat, according to a news release from the Ohio House Democratic Caucus.
Athens City Councilwoman Debbie Phillips trails incumbent Republican Jimmy Stewart by 1,373 votes, but more than 3,000 ballots remain uncounted in the district, which comprises Athens, Meigs, Morgan and Washington counties, according to the release.
The McTigue Law Group also will monitor races in Franklin County's 20th District and Cuyahoga County's 16th District.
Phillips said she thinks it's too soon to tell if the extra ballots could swing the race in her favor, though it's a possibility.

Phillips said, adding she's spending more time with her family and returning to normal life while she waits for the final results to be tallied.
Stewart said he is cautiously optimistic and expects final results from Meigs, Morgan and Washington counties by the end of this week. The final count from Athens might not come until the last week in November, he said.

The remaining ballots include about 1,100 absentee ballots from Athens County ' the only of the four counties in which Phillips beat Stewart, according to results so far ' that were not counted because of scanning problems. About 2,100 provisional ballots throughout the district and 74 improperly scanned ballots in Athens County also remain to be counted, according to the release.
