The 86th annual Academy Awards will air Sunday, March 2 at 7 p.m.
The nominations for the 86th annual Academy Awards were announced Thursday. American Hustle and Gravity have tied for the top spot with 10 nominations each while 12 Years a Slave is second with nine nominations.
The Golden Globe winners are all featured, although some Globe nominees were left out of the Oscar race, such as Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips. Not to mention the diminution in nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress since the Globes feature categories for comedic and dramatic films while the Academy Awards only have one category for an actor and actress. Even Oscar Isaac of the much buzzed Inside Llewyn Davis was not nominated.
Meryl Streep is on the list of nominees once again, making this the 18th time she has been nominated for an Oscar. Other favorite celebrity Leonardo DiCaprio is among those nominated for Best Actor, a prize he has yet to win in his past three nominations; this is his fourth time in the race.
Though I haven't seen many of the films listed yet, (key word: yet) I know that I will not be rooting for American Hustle. The actors all had fantastic performances but the film itself should not win. However, I can talk endlessly about one nominee: Frozen. Frozen is quite possibly my favorite film of the moment and I will not stop ranting if it doesn't win Best Animated Feature. It won the Golden Globe; let's continue that winning streak. Also up from Frozen is "Let It Go" for Best Original Song, a prize the film surprisingly did not take away from the Globes. The Oscar is more important anyway. Let's not make the same mistake the Hollywood Foreign Press Association did. Start the campaign now: #FrozenForTheOscar
