Women's Golf: Ohio swings from 10th place to 5th

It seemed as if the Bobcats were set to finish poorly after the first day of the Zippy Invitational.

But, as the popular saying goes, It isn't over until it's over.

After one round of play, the Bobcats were in 4th place overall, shooting a team score of 330. The second round delivered similar results for the Bobcats. They finished with a team score of 331, but dropped down to 10th place overall in the tournament.

We definitely didn't feel like we put our best foot forward the first two rounds

coach Kelly Ovington said. We don't want to be in that spot. We don't want to be in the bottom of the pack.

Yesterday's round was a different story. All five of the Bobcats improved their previous day's scores and combined for a team round of 313, which was the best team round of the day. It propelled the Bobcats to a 5th place overall finish for the tournament, 42 strokes behind champion Grand Valley State.

On Monday, Ovington was concerned about her team's up-and-down level of play on the golf course. Yesterday, the Bobcats gave her little reason to worry.

Today was really about consistency said sophomore Megan Weaver.

Led by Weaver's round of 77 (+4), the Bobcats performed well on a day when playing conditions were tough.

The pin placements were a lot tougher today Weaver said. But we seemed to play really well overall anyway. A lot of people struggled

but we seemed to do well.

A leader throughout the season, Weaver continued her high level of play yesterday.

Everything was pretty even

Weaver said. I didn't drive great. I didn't chip great. I didn't putt great

but I knew where my shots were going. I played the swing I had today.

I made some long putts I normally don't, but missed some I usually do. The best part of my game was definitely the sand, though. I managed to get up and down a few times from there, saving me a couple strokes, which will probably be important at the end.

Weaver finished with a 232 for the tournament (+17 overall)

and tied for fifth place with Kristen Hill of Akron. Hill

who led after the first two rounds

gradually scored worse as the tournament progressed. She shot an 82 (+10)

nine shots higher than her first-round score.

The Bobcats left Akron and the Zippy Invitational with an eye toward the next tournament.

Today will hopefully be a starting point for the next tournament, Weaver said. It will hopefully get the ball rolling on some good work over the next few weeks.",",2,Sports,Noah Meyers,",",",",",Quick Stats,Zippy Invitational

there was a Homebrew Festival hosted by the Ohio University Brew Crew on McCracken Field. Its goal was to help dispel OU's negative reputation as a school that does not know how to deal with alcohol responsibly and to promote the joys of home brewing. A look at Monday's headlines might make one think that the event was a complete failure
