The Ohio baseball team reaches the middle of its Mid-American Conference season this weekend when they travel to face Buffalo.
The Bobcats (12-18, 5-7 MAC) have won one conference series on the season, coming against Ball State. Since then Ohio has won only two of its last six games. The 'Cats were roughed up in their two non-conference contests this week, losing to both Pittsburgh and Xavier.
Ohio coach Joe Carbone said the team has to improve in all aspects of the game to come away with wins this weekend.
The pitching has got to be better
the hitting has got to be better and the defense has got to be better he said. We have to take a more hard-nose tougher attitude about what it takes to win.
For the weekend series, Ohio will have pitcher Anthony Gressick back in the starting rotation after he was unable to pitch for a month because of an injury. He will be looking for his third win of the season when he takes the mound in the series finale on Sunday.
Having Anthony back gives us a chance to make a move in the conference
Carbone said.
In his return to the mound last weekend against Eastern Michigan, the right-hander allowed four runs on four hits and struck out six batters in four innings of work.
Derek Witt will get the nod Friday and John Angelicchi will start Saturday.
Buffalo (9-24, 2-10 MAC) is sitting fifth in the MAC East Division standings, behind Ohio. Entering today's series opener, Buffalo has lost its last four games. The Bulls have only won one MAC series this season.
Their record might not show where their program is
but their program has definitely improved by the quality of players that they now have
Carbone said.
Today's game starts at 3 p.m., with first pitch at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Games will be held at Amherst Audobon Field in Buffalo.
