Ohio’s golf teams will hit the links again today.
The women’s golf team travels to Fishers, Ind., to get a glimpse of Mid-American Conference competition by participating in the MAC Preview. Six other conference programs will take part in the tournament.
The action will take place at The Hawthorns Golf & County Club and will be Ohio’s third tournament of the fall season. The Bobcats’ last tournament was at Ball State, where they finished fourth. Senior Megan Weaver led the Bobcats at the tournament, where she placed fourth individually.
“We have been looking forward to the preview,” women's golf coach Kelly Ovington said. “It is going to be a very strong field and it's going to give us a good idea of where we size up with everyone right now at the beginning of the season.”
The men’s golf team will participate with another species of cat when it travels to Kentucky for the Bearcat Invitational at Traditions Golf Club. The tournament is a two-day, three-round event.
Ohio is among 15 teams competing in the tournament, along with one other MAC school, Bowling Green. Coach Bob Cooley stressed the importance of getting the ball in play with the driver.
“If we get the ball on the fairway, we are going to play better because it is obviously easier to hit the green when you are in the fairway versus the rough,” Cooley said.
After finishing eighth at Bowling Green, Cooley said the team is starting to turn around.
“I think we are playing better. We have been practicing better, our qualifying scores have been better,” Cooley said. “I just want us to keep getting better.
“We played good the last round at Bowling Green. Hopefully, that will carry over to this tournament.”
Senior Paul Grauer led the Bobcats in their last tournament, where he finished in third place.
