A Coolville man was sentenced to more than nine years in prison for attacking and robbing an 82-year-old woman in January, and agreed to testify against his three alleged accomplices.
Cody Stout, 23, drove with three other individuals, two of whom allegedly entered the residence of Ota Vincent, severely beat her, stabbed her and stole items from her home on Brandeberry Road in Coolville on Jan. 24, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn.
Cody Stout, of Coolville, allegedly committed the incident with Brandon Baker, 19, Christopher Fleming, 20, and Colin Stout, 20.
In September, Cody Stout and the other three men were indicted on 14 felony charges each for the alleged incident: two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of robbery, two counts of felonious assault, two counts of kidnapping, one count of attempted murder, one count of abduction, one count of tampering with evidence, one count of theft of drugs, one count of theft from the elderly and one count of theft.
On Tuesday, Cody Stout changed his plea to guilty as part of a plea agreement with the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, and Athens County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Ward sentenced Stout to nine years and nine months in prison, according to the release.
Blackburn could not be reached for comment.
As part of the agreement, multiple charges for Cody Stout were changed to a lesser degree and merged into each other, and his attempted murder charge was dismissed.
In addition to the sentence of nine years and nine months in prison, Cody Stout also agreed to cooperate and testify in the cases against Baker, Fleming and Colin Stout.
The cases against Baker, Fleming and Colin Stout are still pending. If convicted of all charges, they could be sentenced to a maximum of 94 years and six months in prison each, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
With his attempted murder charged dismissed, Cody Stout could have been sentenced to a maximum of 44 years in prison and a maximum fine of $65,000, according to court documents.
