I would like to publicly thank the two Ohio University professors who presented at Friday's International Studies Forum. Professor Loren Lybarger from Classics and World Religions, and professor George Hartley from the English Department introduced a crucial perspective on the situation in Gaza that took into account the legacy of Western imperialism and colonialism that continues to this day. I was extremely inspired and heartened by the courage these two professors showed to present views that, while absolutely critical to understanding today's world, are still far from mainstream. My hope is that, rather than discourage such views, this university would honor intelligent dialogue that dissolves the roots of racism, classicism, and the powerful institutions that fragment our world and perpetuate the Western hegemony of knowledges and worldviews. Thank you, professors Lybarger and Hartley, for speaking about these issues.
