Partygoers will have an extra hour of Halloween festivities as daylight-saving time ends early Sunday morning.
Some Uptown bars, such as The Junction, The Pub, The Blue Gator and Pawpurr's on Court Street and Skipper's Bar & Grill on West Union Street, are opting to work the extra hour and close at the regular time, which would be 3 a.m. without the time change.
Despite the longer party hours, bar owners and employees don't seem to expect any extra difficulties from rabblerousing partiers.
I don't think there will be any problems
said Brian Ogrinc, a bartender at The Junction.
Steve Van Fleet, owner of Pawpurr's, said he thinks the cold, rainy weather will keep the crowd from staying out too late.
They made a bigger issue about that (daylight-saving time ending on the same night as Halloween) than they needed to four or five years ago he said.
Athens Police Capt. Tom Pyle said that when daylight-saving time has ended on the same night as Halloween in the past, it hasn't necessarily meant any more trouble than usual.
It just makes longer hours for us he said.
OU senior Dayna Zawoysky is not attending the street party but said she is glad some bars are staying open the extra hour. (If the bars didn't stay open) it would probably be the most insane thing ever ' I'm sure everyone would riot
she said.
Nick McMaster, an OU junior, said he thinks otherwise. Things probably won't be much crazier than they normally would. It just gives people an extra hour of it
he said.
