An uptown pasta restaurant will reopen at the end of the month after closing over winter break more than two months ago.
Killer Tomato, 5 N. Court St., will be closed until late February because of new equipment being added to the store, said owner Quinn Schaller. The store closed on Thanksgiving.
Schaller also owns Big Mamma's Burritos, 10 S. Court St., which is still open.
It's the only place to get pasta
said Andrew Vantassel, a customer and FedEx Office employee. However, he added that he only sees two to three people eat there each day.
The pasta restaurant will have a new grill, which will help make sandwiches, Schaller said. New items will be added to the menu as well, he added.
We are in the process of mixing things up and testing new menu items Schaller said. We want a bigger sandwich selection.
Killer Tomato is one of many businesses that closed over Ohio University's winter break. Schaller was hoping to open at the beginning of the month to accommodate the students, but the grill has not yet been delivered.
Obviously businesses hurt when students are not here said Wendy Jakmas, president of Athens Area Chamber of Commerce. Businesses are forced to close
as much as they don't want to.
Killer Tomato is not a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Jakmas said.
Schaller said that the changes will help business and not cause a large loss in profits.
In the grand scheme of things
having a better menu that's more in tune with what students want and their tastes is better in the long run
Schaller said.
Burrito Buggy, another uptown eatery, also closed over winter break and is expected to reopen spring quarter.
