Local band member to perform solo act

Before the start of a fall tour with fellow band mates from Southeast Engine next week, Adam Remnant will be performing solo Sept. 13.

Remnant, singer and songwriter for Southeast Engine, is a 2004 Ohio University alumnus and currently resides in Athens with his wife and daughter.

All four members of Southeast Engine reside in different towns, so when they aren’t on tour, everyone is doing something different, Remnant said, adding that solo shows happen somewhat sporadically.

“Typically someone will send me a request or ask me if I’m available for something, and if I am, I’m usually up to doing it,” he said. “It’s just whatever comes my way.”

Remnant said a solo album might be in the works in the coming months.

“I have a bunch of songs that have not made it on to the Southeast Engine album, and I’m thinking of making a homespun solo album,” he said. “But I am a new father also, so my time is limited.”

Everything that life entails is inspiration for both Remnant’s solo work and songs for Southeast Engine, he said.

“Everything is up for grabs,” he said. “It could be a relationship or a philosophical idea, but I can use it.”

Although Remnant has some new songs, he added that Thursday’s show provides an opportunity for Southeast Engine fans to hear some of the band’s songs stripped down.

The band’s fall tour begins in Athens on Sept. 20 with a show at Casa Nueva, 6 W. State St. They will be performing with rock band Water Liars.

Remnant said his favorite memories from tours are the shows where the audience connects with the band.

“From night to night, you are the same band, but the environment and the vibe and the crowd are different,” he said. “Some nights are just magic.”
