When guard Antonio Chatman told his coaches that he was unhappy, they were more than surprised.
Chatman, the backup point guard for the Bobcats, met with Tim O'Shea and other coaches this past Friday and told them he needed to deal with some personal issues.
He came to us (coaches) after the BG game and caught us off guard when he said he wasn't happy with a variety of things
O'Shea said. It is more of a personal matter and general unhappiness and it was in his best interest to take some time off from the team.
O'Shea said he was unaware of the extent of Chatman's problems, but that he recognized his player's need for some time away to handle things at home.
We didn't have any indication of his feelings previous to him telling us O'Shea said. There are a lot of things going on in his life. He comes from a tough background
is pretty shy and doesn't say much. So I don't know how much he told us.
Whether Chatman will return to the team is still undecided, but O'Shea said that he is willing to work together with Chatman to reach a decision.
He may be back soon if he rejoins
if he wants we can work something out
O'Shea explained. He may leave and he may not. It is up to him.
Without Chatman, the Bobcats have just nine players game-ready. O'Shea said the addition of two walk-on players can be expected to fill in at practice. The announcement may come as soon as today, but O'Shea denied that one of them would be Ohio wide receiver William Norwood.
We are going to add a couple of walk-ons but they have yet to be cleared and deemed eligible
O'Shea said. I have talked with some kids who are interested
and we will be dressing some walk-ons by Thursday.
