Laughin' Athens: Comedians 'brought their A-game' to Jackie O's last night

Last night at Jackie O’s and Blue Pencil Comedy, teamed up with professional comedian Andy Woodhull creating one of the most entertaining comedy nights of the year.

“They really were the best I’ve seen them,” Josh Aldrich, sophomore business major and audience member said. “They really brought their A game tonight.”

The venue was packed full of a slew of different types of people as they listened to two hours of top tier jokesters new and old.

One particular local comedian, freshman Seth Johnson, was only on stage for the second time doing stand-up.

“Yeah, he was Open Mic last Saturday at Front Room and we decided to put him in the Jackie O’s show,” Max Cothrel, Blue Pencil Comedy group member and fellow comedian, said.

Professional comedian Andy Woodhull was also apart of the line-up. He appeared to enjoy himself pausing to laugh with the audience between jokes about ex-girlfriends, shrimp, cake, vampire minds, flying and more.

“You guys are just a great audience,” Woodhull said. “I have really just loved Athens."

After the show the comedian also provided advice to fellow giggle ensures as he sold CDs of his comedy material entitled Sounds of The Rain Forest, which can be bought on I-tunes for $10.

“Honestly, if you have talent and you work hard you are going to be successful,” Woodhull said.

Woodhull also shared his plans for the future as he prepares to move to L.A. this winter and continue his comedy career.

Though the night seemed to go off without a hitch some seemed to believe otherwise.

“It was one of our biggest most versatile crowds but I think it was also one of our hardest,” Zac Coleman, comedy night show host, said.

The majority of the crowd showed signs of enjoyment though as they continually applauded comedians and interacted with their jokes making it one of the loudest and most spirited shows of the year.

The next comedy night at Jackie O’s will be October 26th beginning at 8:30 p.m.
